Taking a tour out in the desert unfurls a historical landscape, that has not only shaped history, but has formed the traditions and cultures of those who inhabit the land.

Desert Tour

For those who desire the experience of exploring the local environment without necessarily making the trek on foot, we offer a four hour desert tour. Allow us to share our history across this land with you as we travel by car across the desert to visit a few of the most striking sights. including one of the highest mountains in the desert.

From this view, we will be able to point out the different villages and communities strewn across the landscape and their respective histories, as well as the differences in administration under the Jordanian and Israeli administrations and the changes that occurred to the landscape under each. We will also share our hopes for the future of the landscape and its communities, and ideas about a just peace for all peoples in this land as we traverse it together.

Interact with the camels found in the desert, take photos of the beautiful and striking landscape as your pass, and enjoy a cup of our tea with your guides as we share with you our experience in this land before heading back to the village.

  • As part of the camping experience, we also offer a traditional Jordanian and Palestinian Bedouin style of barbeque, zarb, which refers to the traditional practice of cooking food under the ground in earth ovens.
  • Relax, drink tea, hear the history of the land and your tour guides’ perspectives on justice building as you sit by the fire. Then, wake up to enjoy the sunrise from your cliffside campsite overlooking the Dead Sea as you sip a cup of coffee.
  • The cost per person for camping in the desert ranges depending on the length of the hike you choose, meal accommodations, and other amenities you can select. Generally, the price ranges from 150 to 340 shekels per person.
Making bread in Um al-Khair, Palestine
Our trips into the desert are an oppurtunity to escape technology and take a breathe of fresh air. It gives us a space out of the day-to-day drag and puts us scarely out into healing of nature.

Whether by luxary van, off-road 4×4’s, or treking the hillsides by foot – getting out into the wide-open spaces of the desert gives people a sense of freedom that can’t be found anywhere else in the Holy Land.

The joyful children, the entrepreneurial young people, the steadfast grandparents are inspiring and humbling. It is a privilege to breathe the rural air, listen to the wind’s whistle, and gaze across the olive tree and goat-speckled hills.
